Public History and Urban History Today

You are invited to a conference exploring urban history as public history and the possibilities for its contemporary presentation.

The event is connected to the research project ARIS J6-9358 and the preparation of the historical atlas of the city of Ljubljana, scheduled for publication in 2026. Contributions will focus on the history and urban development of Ljubljana, as well as related projects researching and presenting other comparable European cities such as Vienna, Bratislava, Bologna, Luxembourg, and cities in Poland, Hungary, and Ireland.

Special attention will be given to various forms of communicating urban history to the public—through historical atlases, interactive web portals, GIS technologies, city Wikipedias, and so-called "time machines." The discussions will enhance understanding of the practices and challenges cities face in researching and promoting their historical heritage.

This topic is of great importance as it opens new opportunities for the development and promotion of urban tourism and cultural awareness.
