The Long Path to Peace
On Thursday, 13 November 2025, in Tolmin at Kinogledališče the book DOLGA POT DO MIRU [The Long Path to Peace] was premiered. The event took place as part of the conversational evenings series Signed! 2025 predominantly hybrid directed by Zdravko Duša. The book, authored by Boštjan Videmšek and Abha Valentina Lo Surdo, was just published in Slovenian by UMKO.
The book offers a unique perspective by Boštjan Videmšek on the contemporary wars through the lens of the experiences of Slovenian soldiers in the Great War. This is combined with reflections on the Walk of Peace trail, which according to Videmšek proves that a way to peace exists. It is long and perhaps even impossible, but it needs to press on. "On the way to peace [...] every single one of us has to pacify themselves first" (B. Videmšek).
Abha Valentina Lo Surdo walked the Walk of Peace with fifteen interlocutors, recorded her and their impressions, and summarized them into a moving mosaic of stories about the past and present in various places of memory of the Soča/Isonzo front.
The book was presented in a conversation with Zdravko Duša by author Boštjan Videmšek and the interviewee and expert reviewer Dr. Petra Svoljšak.
In spring the book will be published in Italian by the Milanese publisher Terra di Mezzo. It represents one of the more original results of the #BWOP - Beyond Walk of Peace project, led by the Walk of Peace Foundation and carried out by partners #PromoTurismoFVG, GECT/EZTS, ZRC SAZU Milko Kos Historical Institute, Festival èStoria in the municipality of Miren Kostanjevica.
On 4 December, a new presentation will be held at Vodnikova domačija in Ljubljana.
