Refugees and Population Transfer Management in Europe, 1914–1920s

Published on: August 13, 2024

It is with great pleasure that we announce the publication of "Refugees and Population Transfer Management in Europe, 1914 - 1920s", edited by Dr Kamil Ruszała of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, in the Routledge Studies in Modern European History series, published by the prestigious Routledge publishing house. The monograph deals with the topic of refugees and forced population movements during and after the First World War and is one of the few attempts to address the topic in a broader and comparative European context, from Western to Eastern and Northern Europe, highlighting the specificities of the refugee problem in different geopolitical contexts through individual case studies. In particular, Slovenian refugees in Austria-Hungary were presented from the perspective of the "other" in their own country by Dr Gregor Antoličič and Dr Petra Svoljšak from the Milka Kos Institute of History of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences.

The monograph is the result of the international scientific conference "Humans in Motion, War Crisis and Refugees in Europe 1914-1923", which took place in Krakow from 29 June to 1 July and was co-organised by the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and the ZRC SAZU Milko Kos Historical Institute.
