The monograph is devoted to the history of Slovenian territory in the middle of the 18th century through the eyes of Franz Heinrich Baron Raigersfeld (1697–1760). In his time, Raigersfeld was one of the most famous personalities from the territory of today's Slovenia. He was a traveler, official and functionary, entrepreneur, cosmopolitan and traditionalist, collector of antiques and bibliophile. In his youth, he focused on the economy and trade as a career. In 1721, he got a job in the Austrian Oriental Company, and later worked in the economic development of the Austrian Littoral. In 1747, at the request of the ruler Maria Theresa, he returned to Ljubljana. There, as a member of the provincial government, he participated in reforms, building infrastructure, industry, education and health. Until his death, he wrote a diary, collected correspondence, transcripts of official files, his reports, and wrote down his thoughts on politics and economics. His accuracy and principles make these records an excellent source for 18th century history: Raigersfeld did not only describe his work, but also his socializing with relatives, friends, politicians and strangers. He constantly described the achievements of civilization, care for health, attitude towards wife and children, crime, natural disasters and noble entertainment.
