The book 'On the History of Slovenian Christian Democracy. Memorial Records of Jakob Mohorič (1888–1976)' is a comprehensive edition of memoirs of a lesser known yet still important Slovenian political figure from the first half of the twentieth century. Because the lawyer Jakob Mohorič took an active part in political life from an early age as an adherent of the Slovenian Catholic camp, his memorial records provide a truly gripping insight into the behind-the-scenes political dealings in Slovenia during that time. The volume was edited by Andrej Rahten and Gregor Antoličič. Rahten also contributed an in-depth companion study, in which he placed Mohorič into a wider context of the political developments that took place in Slovenia between the years leading up to the First World War and the end of the Second World War. In this way, Mohorič’s memoirs, in conjunction with Rahten’s companion study, present Slovenian historical scholarship with a new view on the watershed events that marked Slovenia’s recent past. For a better understanding of Mohorič’s text as well as his life circumstances, the editors established contacts and conducted several interviews with his descendants, thus lending the volume additional significance.
