Social and environmental sustainability of community, individual
and public forms of management

The conference will be investigating the increasingly topical issue of the environment as a source of energy as well as means of human sustenance and productivity. Due to the specific nature of Alpine ecosystems a variety of characteristic resource managing practices have been present in the region throughout the history. These involved on the one hand enviornmental management by local communities and the intervention of public authorities on the other. The colloque aims to study the sustainability of these practices and to compare them with present-day development and environmental problematics.
